Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah insists his team are fully committed to a deep run at AFCON 2025 following their narrow victory over Equatorial Guinea that reshaped the standings in Group E.

The Falcons of Jediane claimed a 1–0 win at Casablanca’s Mohamed V Stadium on Sunday, with the killer strike arriving in the 74th minute after a tight, goalless first half.

Speaking after the match, Appiah acknowledged the scale of the challenge in Morocco but insisted Sudan’s mindset is centred on competing for the title rather than merely progressing from the group.

“As I keep saying, it is not an easy task, but once you take part in a competition, the ambition is not to be part of the competition, or come out at the group stages,” he said.

“The ambition is how can I play well to make sure I win this competition. As at now, we did not start well, but the most important thing is to make sure we win our games, to make sure we win the AFCON. That is our aim.”

Appiah added that the result was important in keeping Sudan’s campaign on track.

“We achieved what mattered most, and we are mindful of these objectives of reaching the furthest stage possible. We are not here to just participate,” he stressed.

“Our mission is not to win one game, but to go all the way and lift the AFCON,” Appiah concluded.
