Black Stars head coach Otto Addo remains optimistic about Ghana's chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite their recent goalless draw against Sudan in Accra.
Following the disappointing result, Addo acknowledged that while the qualification journey is challenging, the team's fate is still in their own hands.
"This is football. I cannot even assure [my life]. Maybe God will take my life tomorrow. We will try our best, and I know that in the end, we will be rewarded," he stated during the post-match press conference, underscoring the unpredictable nature of the sport.
Ghana is set to face Sudan again in a crucial return leg in Libya on Monday, October 14. Currently, the Black Stars sit third in Group F with just two points from three matches, making a victory essential to keep their AFCON 2025 qualification hopes alive. However, Addo refrained from making any promises about a win.
"The positive thing I want to say is that it’s still in our own hands. We must win the next game, and that’s all that matters. But we can win the next game and still not qualify. We have a long way to go," he emphasized.
The Black Stars have faced difficulties in their AFCON qualification campaign, with only two draws and one loss in their three games. The draw against Sudan complicates their path to the tournament, but Addo is confident that with an improved performance, they can secure the necessary result in Libya.
