Patrice Motsepe has urged East Africa to match the high standards set by Morocco after their successful hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from June 19 to July 18, marking the first time three East African nations will stage the tournament together.
Motsepe praised Morocco’s organisation of the 2025 edition, which featured modern infrastructure, multiple stadiums across six cities, and improved logistics, setting what he described as a “very high standard” for African football.
He called on the East African hosts to maintain or even surpass those benchmarks, expressing confidence that the region can deliver a successful tournament.
“You see, Morocco has raised the standard… you have a high standard to come up to and to maintain,” he said.
Motsepe also confirmed plans to visit Kenya in May to inspect infrastructure and engage with leaders as preparations intensify.
The 2027 edition will be part of AFCON’s 70th anniversary and is expected to further boost football development across the continent.
