In a dazzling display of skill and strategy, Theophilus Ayamga, a midfielder for the Black Starlets, expressed his satisfaction with their game plan against Cote d’Ivoire in the opening match of the 2024 WAFU B Cup of Nations.

The Ghana U17 national team soared to a resounding 5-1 victory over the Baby Elephants at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Wednesday, setting the tone for a promising tournament.

Ayamga, speaking at the post-match press conference, lauded the effectiveness of their meticulously crafted approach to the game. He remarked, “We came with a game plan and you could see on the field of play we dominated play and we didn’t do anything aside what they taught us; that we had to keep them on the final third, move the ball faster. That is how we dominated play. We came in with a game plan and it worked perfectly for us.”

The Starlets wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Joseph Narbi netting a brace in the first half to give Ghana a comfortable 2-0 lead. Godfred Sarpong extended the lead to three just after halftime, before Côte d’Ivoire managed to pull one back.

However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Harve Gbafa restored the Starlets’ three-goal advantage with 15 minutes remaining. Mark Kagawa Mensah put the finishing touches on the victory with a goal in stoppage time, sealing an emphatic win for Ghana.
