Former Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has been appointed as the new coach of the Sudan national team, replacing Yusuf Fartout who has been sacked after a disappointing display in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

The Sudanese Football Association (SFA) announced that they've handed 63-year-old Appiah a three-year contract.

Until recently, he has been in charge of Ghanaian lower tier side Kenpong Academy since exiting his post as the Black Stars head coach in January 2020, having made a comeback since April 2017.

Appiah has a wealth of experience in football, having played for Prestea Mine Stars and Asante Kotoko, going ahead to manage the Porcupine Warriors and the Ghana U23 and the senior men's national football team.

Kickgh.com understands that Appiah's backroom staff will mostly be packed with Ghanaians; his assistant, goalkeepers coach and physio therapist.
