Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has praised the Black Queens following their semi-final finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), saying the team is building towards future continental success.

Ghana were narrowly eliminated in the last four after a penalty shootout loss to hosts Morocco, falling short of their first final appearance since 1998.

“We are incredibly proud of the Black Queens,” Okraku said. “This semi-final finish is not the end but a foundation for future success. If we continue to build on this momentum… Ghana will soon be champions of Africa.”

Led by Swedish coach Kim Lars Björkegren, the Black Queens impressed with their tactical discipline and attacking flair throughout the tournament, earning praise at home and abroad.

Okraku noted that reforms in the domestic women’s game, particularly in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League are key to sustaining progress at national level.

“Our journey doesn’t end here,” he added. “With time and consistency, this team will go all the way. Ghana will lift the WAFCON trophy—it is only a matter of time.”

Ghana are expected to regroup ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers and the next WAFCON.

“Let’s support our girls. Let’s stay united. The Black Queens have shown they belong at the top. Now, we must help them take the final step,” he concluded.
