Ghana's struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers worsened with a 2-0 defeat to Sudan at the Martyrs of February Stadium on matchday four.
Coach Otto Addo made only one adjustment to his starting lineup, replacing Jordan Ayew with Inaki Williams. Despite the change, the Black Stars got off to a sluggish start and nearly conceded in the opening minutes before Gideon Mensah’s third-minute shot was blocked.
Sudan’s Abo Eisa almost opened the scoring with a curling effort in the first half, but it was tipped away for a corner.
Ghana seemed to have found the back of the net after halftime when Inaki Williams scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Sudan continued to pile on the pressure, and in the 52nd minute, Abo Eisa narrowly missed another chance from close range. The breakthrough for Sudan finally came in the 62nd minute when Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud took advantage of a defensive lapse to put his side ahead.
Just three minutes later, Mohammed Abdelrahman added a second, outpacing Mohammed Salisu before slotting the ball into the net.
The game ended 2-0 in favor of Sudan, who now move up to seven points in Group F, while Ghana remains stuck on two points, leaving their AFCON qualification hopes in serious doubt.
