Ghana midfielder Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah praised her teammates after the Black Queens secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a 4-1 victory over Tanzania on Monday.
The result at the Stade Municipal de Berkane saw Ghana finish second in Group C, booking a last-eight clash against Algeria.
“I am just proud, so proud of the girls,” said Boye-Hlorkah, who also scored in the win. “I try to lead. I am very vocal on the pitch. I try to push the team as much as I can. The girls picked me up, too.”
Goals from Princella Adubea, Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu and Boye-Hlorkah helped Ghana recover from an opening-match defeat to reach the knockout stage for the first time in over a decade.
“I told them that we are not going to win this game without playing as a team,” the England-born midfielder added. “I am so proud of Ghana, of the fans. I am so proud to be Ghanaian.”
The Black Queens will face Algeria in the quarter-finals on Saturday, July 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 17:00 GMT at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
