The budding defender of Ghanaian heritage is keeping his head over fresh terms with the Amsterdam-based club as he set his sights on gaining promotion to the mainstream squad in the not-too-distant future as an upcoming youth star

Dutch-born Ghanaian teen Avery Appiah has shed light on his contract extension situation at Eredivisie giant Ajax, with those eager to see him penning a new deal told ''We're just going to see what the summer brings'' ahead of the summer window.

The 19-year-old, who is currently the captain of Jong Ajax, is looking forward to maturing with the Ajax U21 in the Kitchen Champions Division and eventually see where his future would be with regards to his transition to the first-team setup.

Speaking in an interview, the Ghana-prospect right-back has said of his contract extension situation with Ajax by telling ESPN: ''I play my matches for Jong Ajax. I have trained with the first team occasionally and played a friendly match for Ajax 1. We're just going to see what the summer brings. My gut tells me that I trust in God. If I could handle that, I would be here right now. The club is letting me mature in Jong Ajax first, and then we'll see what happens.''

After helping his side to a 1-0 victory against Jong PSV on Friday, the former Feyenoord academy man took time to extol his team-mates for putting in such efforts to triumph over their league rivals at the end of the contest.

''You basically just had to win that one. When you see the energy and passion we put into this match… Then you see that we can simply play good football and win,'' the teenager stressed. ''That has actually been the case all season. With everything we have been through, what we have gone through... Also on a personal level for certain players. You can really see that we live for a win. You can see that it came out in the guys today (Friday, ed.).''

Appiah has so far featured in 32 appearances for the Ajax U21 in this ongoing Kitchen Champions Division campaign.

Given his Ghanaian heritage, the Zoetermeer-born budding star remains fit to play for Ghana at the international level despite playing for the Netherlands U16 & U17 national youth teams.
