Senegal have decided to appeal CAF’s ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after being stripped of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The Teranga Lions had initially won the final 1-0 after extra time, with Pape Gueye scoring the decisive goal following a missed late penalty by Morocco in regulation time.
However, CAF’s Appeal Jury later overturned the result, awarding a 3-0 victory to Morocco after ruling that Senegal’s actions during the game breached Articles 82 and 84 of the competition’s regulations.
The decision followed an appeal by the Moroccan FA, with CAF officially confirming the new outcome on March 17, declaring Morocco as champions.
Senegal’s Football Federation has rejected the ruling, insisting they played the game to completion and won fairly, and will now challenge the decision at CAS.
Official statement from the FSF described the ruling as “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable.
"To defend the rights and interests of Senegalese football, the federation announces it will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, with an emergency procedure to be initiated as soon as possible," part of the statement read.
"The Federation reaffirms its commitment to the values of integrity and sporting justice and will keep the public informed of the follow-up to this matter."
The case is expected to draw major attention, with the final outcome set to determine the official winner of one of the most controversial AFCON tournaments in history.
