Sifiso Ntibane has stepped down as interim head coach of the Eswatini national football team following their failure to progress in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ntibane announced his decision after a difficult week in which his side suffered back-to-back defeats to Eritrea.
Eswatini lost 2-0 away before falling 2-1 at home in the return leg, results that ended their hopes of reaching the group stage of the 2027 qualifiers.
The latest defeat, which came on Sunday, confirmed their exit from the competition at the preliminary round.
Ntibane, who had been serving as interim coach after previously working as an assistant, said the results did not meet expectations and accepted responsibility for the team’s performance.
The losses, seen as disappointing, brought an early end to Eswatini’s campaign and have left the team facing a period of rebuilding ahead of future competitions.
