With Sudan gearing up for a competitive return to continental football and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Coach Kwesi Appiah, who has been at the helm of the team’s success, recently shared his aspirations with Asempa FM, stating that he aims to secure a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking confidently, Coach Appiah emphasized his team’s readiness to do to death any opponent that comes their way, strengthening their tactical approach, and the unity within the squad.
The team, which last appeared at the Afcon tournament in 2012, the Falcons of Jediane are determined to make Sudanese proud under the red-sore eyes of Ghanaian master thinker Kwesi Appiah.
“When I was appointed, I was not given any target but rather I was told to build a team within a period of years but I told them that would be difficult due to the unrest and it is just two clubs who were playing in CAF competitions," he said.
“Despite the unrest, I convinced them that I wanted to qualify for the AFCON and the World Cup and if only they could support me, we would achieve it and now we have qualified for the AFCON.
“When I left Sudan in 2015, five of the players I coached at Al Khartoum were still in the national team so I used them to help get in touch with other players and they helped me a lot."
Appiah went ahead to speak about the strength of his players, commending their mindset in making sure the job is done on the field of play.
“Sudanese players are well-disciplined and they are always willing to do more so that helped me a lot. Even during the qualifiers, they always wanted to know if they were doing what was right or not.”
Sudan will take on Senegal and South Sudan in the fifth and sixth match days of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.
