Black Stars captain, Andre Dede Ayew, asserted that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is the most challenging tournament globally, surpassing the FIFA World Cup in terms of intensity.
Ayew shared this perspective during a farewell dinner attended by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif.
Addressing the difficulty of the AFCON, Ayew emphasized, "This tournament is even harder than the World Cup."
He acknowledged the tournament's demanding nature, citing the need for unity and determination. Ayew reassured President Akufo-Addo of the team's solidarity, expressing the desire to secure victory at the AFCON and end Ghana's 42-year title drought.
“We know that it is the hardest tournament, for me, in the world when it comes to fighting, determination, energy so the only way we can do this by being together and being united and for that Your Excellency, I can assure you that we are united and we want do it.”
Ghana, placed in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, will kick off its AFCON campaign against Cape Verde on January 14.
