Senegal’s Football Federation has expressed strong opposition to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations ruling that has awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory over Senegal and declared them as champions of the competition on the back of the controversial final.

The decision came after the Confederation of African Football Appeal Board concluded on Tuesday, March 17, that Senegal’s walkout in stoppage time of the final, breached Articles 82 and 84 of CAF regulations, resulting in a forfeiture of the match and Morocco being declared champions.

General Secretary of the Senegalese FA, Abdoulaye Seydou Sow on Tandarma on RTS 1, has strongly criticized the ruling, describing it as unfair and lacking legal foundation. He further emphasized Senegal’s determination to challenge the ruling

“The CAF disciplinary committee had made its decisions, and Morocco had appealed. This decision is a breach of trust that is not based on any rule of law. We had the feeling that the jury was not there to uphold the law, but to carry out an order.”

“We will contact our lawyers and file an appeal. We will stop at nothing. The law is on our side. The fight is far from over. Senegal will defend its rights to the very end.”

The ruling has sparked widespread debate and will definitely divide opinions across Africa, with football fans and analysts questioning the idea of chosing a champion by a post-match disciplinary reversal rather than play on the pitch.

Senegal’s appeal is expected to trigger another review by CAF, and the footballing world now waits to see whether the 2025 AFCON title will ultimately remain with Morocco or be contested further.
