Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has set an ambitious target of scoring 15 goals in the ongoing Premier League campaign, following his impressive start to the season with AFC Bournemouth.
The 25-year-old striker has been in outstanding form, registering six goals and three assists in just 10 league appearances. His consistent performances have been one of the few shining positives for the Cherries, even as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland leads the Golden Boot race with 13 goals.
Semenyo, who scored eight goals two seasons ago and improved to 11 last term, believes this is the year to take his game to another level.
“Every year, I write my goals – what I want to do,” he told Sky Sports.
“I always want to do better than what I’ve done in previous seasons. I set a challenge for myself this year, and I really want to push myself.I think I’m a good finisher. I can help the team in many ways, and credit to the manager [Andoni Iraola] and all the players – they’ve been so helpful. Fifteen goals would be great.”
Semenyo’s fine form has also earned him a nomination for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for October. He will compete against Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Moisés Caicedo (Chelsea), Emiliano Buendía (Aston Villa), and his Bournemouth teammate Justin Kluivert for the honour.
After Bournemouth’s unbeaten run was halted by a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, Semenyo will be eager to inspire a swift response when the Cherries travel to face Aston Villa on Sunday.
