Ghana and Stade Rennais defender, Alidu Seidu has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing season following the injury he picked against Lille last night in the French Ligue 1 and is expected to be out for months.
The Black Stars right-back was forced off the pitch after just 17 minutes, following an awkward landing that ruptured the cruciate ligaments in his left knee.
The versatile defender received several minutes of on-field treatment before being substituted by Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye.
He was later seen on crutches, sparking concerns about the severity of his condition and after undergoing scans this morning, it has sadly been confirmed he's sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury and is expected to be out for nine months or even more.
Seidu, who joined Rennes in January 2024, has quickly established himself as a key player for the club, even winning the team’s Player of the Month award for September.
Alidu Seidu's absence will be a major blow for both Stade Rennes and the Ghana national team and will also be out in Ghana's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad in March next year.
