Ghana head coach Otto Addo has travelled to Italy to check on Tariq Lamptey following the defender’s latest injury setback.
Lamptey, who joined Fiorentina during the summer in search of a fresh start after recurring injuries in England, suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury shortly after the last international break. The blow required surgery and will keep him out for several months.
The 25-year-old’s absence has ruled him out of Ghana’s final two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros this month. Fiorentina have confirmed that Lamptey will be sidelined for at least six months, casting doubt on his chances of making the World Cup if Ghana books a place at the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Addo’s visit highlights his commitment to supporting players off the pitch, providing Lamptey with encouragement as he begins a difficult rehabilitation journey.
The Black Stars currently sit top of Group I and need four points from their final two qualifiers to seal a fifth World Cup appearance.
