English-Ghanaian midfielder Malachi Boateng was instrumental in Plymouth Argyle FC’s 3-0 League One away victory against Wigan Athletic FC, providing two assists in a commanding performance.
Plymouth broke the deadlock just before half-time, as Bim Pepple bundled home from a scrambled free-kick, and Boateng quickly set him up again five minutes later for a precise 15-yard finish, doubling the lead.
Wigan threatened a response after the interval, but a crucial moment saw Joe Taylor’s goal-bound effort deflected safely into keeper Luca Ashby-Hammond’s hands, with handball appeals dismissed. Plymouth sealed the victory when Boateng’s vision unlocked the defence once more, sliding a perfect pass for Caleb Watts to calmly slot home the third in the 71st minute.
Boateng’s performance highlights his growing influence this season, having recorded three goals and seven assists across 36 League One appearances in 2025/26.
The win strengthens Plymouth Argyle FC’s play-off ambitions as they prepare to host Mansfield Town FC in their next league fixture.
