Everton’s new loan signing Tyrique George has spoken openly about his Ghanaian connection, a revelation that could put him in contention for the Black Stars in the years ahead as he settles into life at Goodison Park.
The talented 19-year-old winger, who joined the Toffees from Chelsea on loan until the end of the season, recently shared insight into his family background, explaining that his mother is Ghanaian and his father is Nigerian. Although he was born and raised in England, his heritage means he remains eligible to represent either of the two African nations at senior international level.
George has so far built his international experience within the England youth setup, featuring consistently from the Under-16s through to the Under-21s. However, his confirmation of his roots leaves the possibility open for a change in allegiance later in his career.
His comments come at a time when Ghana are preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Black Stars are set to compete in a tough group that includes England, Croatia, and Panama. The Ghana Football Association has been actively monitoring and engaging players of Ghanaian descent born abroad, hoping to strengthen the national team with dual-national talents.
In recent years, players such as Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah have been linked with potential switches, as Ghana continues to widen its talent pool for future competitions.
Meanwhile, at club level, George is expected to have an opportunity to make an impact at Everton, especially following Jack Grealish’s season-ending foot injury. Known for his pace and ability to operate across the frontline, he offers manager Sean Dyche additional attacking options as the club pushes to finish the 2025/26 campaign strongly.
