French Ligue 1 side Stade de Rennes have officially unveiled their latest addition to the team, 23-year-old Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu.
Coming from the ranks of fellow Ligue 1 side Clermont Foot, Seidu's transfer marked a significant €11 million deal, confirming his place in the squad.
Following his return from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he had limited playing time, Alidu Seidu underwent mandatory medical checks. Successfully clearing these examinations, he was officially welcomed into the Stade Rennais family. The versatile defender committed to a four-year contract, securing his association with the club until 2028.
On a Monday night, Stade Rennais expressed their enthusiasm through a statement and accompanying video on social media. The announcement quoted, "𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗱𝘂 𝗦𝗲𝗶𝗱𝘂 𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗲 𝗲𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝗶𝗿 ✊ 'The Ghanaian defender joins SRFC until 2028. Degemer mat Alidu!'" This valuable addition enhances the team's capabilities, given Seidu's proficiency as both a centre-back and a right-back.
Looking ahead to a potential debut, Stade Rennais fans might witness Alidu in action during the upcoming home game against Montpellier on 3rd February. The anticipation is that Seidu's arrival will fortify the team's performance, especially considering their current challenges, leaving them in the 10th position in Ligue 1.
Despite his limited role in the 2023 AFCON, where Ghana exited in the group phase, Alidu Seidu faced criticism, leading to the subsequent dismissal of coach Chris Hughton. However, this move to Stade Rennais represents a new beginning for the defender, offering him a chance to make a meaningful contribution to the team's pursuit of consistency and a higher standing in the league.
