The 25-year-old midfielder is set to miss the rest of the ongoing campaign with the German outfit after picking up an injury on Saturday

Bundesliga side VfL Bochum have said German-born Ghanaian midfielder Moritz-Broni Kwarteng has suffered from "a partial rupture of the medial ligament in his knee", and will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

The former Hamburger SV attacking midfielder picked up the injury during his side's 1-4 home defeat to RB Leipzig on Saturday in the German top-flight.

Following his red card in the clash, the German Football Association (DFB), has upheld the decision of his marching orders by the match officials and has handed him a three-game ban albeit his injury plight.

That notwithstanding, the above-mentioned decision has left his employers fuming as they provide an  update on Kwarteng's injury having ruled out an appeal against the federation decision over his suspension.

A statement from the club's official website read: "VfL Bochum 1848 has to do without Moritz-Broni Kwarteng for an indefinite period of time. Initially, the 25-year-old offensive player was banned for three games by the DFB sports court due to his red card from the game against RB Leipzig. In addition, Kwarteng was injured in the scene on which the verdict was based and suffered a partial rupture of the medial ligament in his knee. He will be missing from VfL at least until the end of the season,"

"Regardless of the injury, VfL did not agree to the DFB Control Committee's application for punishment and pleaded for a reduction in punishment because, from the club's perspective, it was not an act of violence on the part of the player. However, the three-game ban was confirmed by the DFB sports court. Due to the injury, VfL will not lodge an appeal with the sports court."

Sporting director Marc Lettau said they feel "sorry" for the 25-year-old and will provide him with the "best possible medical support ", in order to come back strong next season.

"We are very sorry for him,” says VfL sports director Marc Lettau. “Momo has invested a lot to become an important factor for our team. We will provide him with the best possible medical support so that he can attack again for the new season.”

Given his Ghanaian heritage, he still remains eligible to switch allegiance and represent Ghana on the international level.
