Ghanaian midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has suffered a significant setback on his road to recovery after experiencing problems again due to increased strain on his knee.

The 28-year-old SC Freiburg player, who previously tore his left cruciate ligament, will undergo another surgery to determine the next steps for his treatment and load management.

Kyereh has already left SC Freiburg's training camp in Schruns to prepare for the operation, which is a major blow to his hopes of returning to the pitch soon. This is the second time Kyereh has torn the cruciate ligament in his left knee, explaining his prolonged absence from the field.

Initially, a year was allocated for his recovery, but this timeline has since been exceeded, with Kyereh now sidelined for approximately 18 months.

The latest setback further delays his return, likely extending his absence well beyond this season. It is increasingly apparent that Kyereh will miss a substantial part of the season, with his return unlikely before the end of the calendar year. Consequently, the former St Pauli attacker can effectively be written off for this season.

Kyereh joined SC Freiburg in 2022 from St Pauli on a free transfer and had been looking forward to making an impact in the Bundesliga. However, his injury woes have now put a damper on those plans.

The Ghanaian international will have to wait patiently for his next opportunity to get back on the pitch and prove himself once again.
