Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey sheds light on his decision to join Arsenal, citing his eagerness to embrace the competitive landscape of the Premier League as a defining factor.

Partey, formerly of Atletico Madrid, made headlines with his £45 million (€50 million) transfer to Arsenal in October 2020, marking a significant career move for the talented player.

Reflecting on his transition to the English club, the 30-year-old emphasized the shift in expectations and responsibilities that accompanied the transfer.

“Moving here was a significant change for me. At Atletico, I arrived as a youth player, with less pressure and responsibility. However, coming to Arsenal, everyone noticed the transfer fee, and I entered a club under intense scrutiny,” he revealed in an interview with Arsenal’s official website.

With 106 appearances under his belt for Arsenal, Partey played a crucial role in the team’s resurgence, aiding in their return to the Champions League after a six-year hiatus.

Despite the challenges of adapting to a new league and style of play, Partey viewed the move as an opportunity for personal growth and development.

“One of the main reasons I joined was for the challenge. I understand the Premier League is highly competitive, but I wanted to face that challenge, test my abilities, and prove myself capable,” he explained. “Maintaining a positive mindset, learning from every experience, and focusing on what I can control are crucial.”

Currently sidelined due to injury setbacks, Partey remains resolute in his determination to regain full fitness and make a substantial impact for Arsenal, especially as they strive to contend for the Premier League title.

With Arsenal gearing up to clash with defending champions Manchester City in a pivotal title showdown this weekend, Partey eagerly anticipates playing a pivotal role in his team’s quest for domestic success.
