The Belgian second-tier outfit have announced the signing of the Ghanaian youngster this summer
Ghanaian winger Joseph Opoku has joined Belgian Challenger Pro League side SV Zulte Waregem on a two-year deal, with an option of extension to another two years upon its expiration, the club have confirmed.
The 20-year-old talented winger is linking up with the former Belgian top division campaigners from Ghanaian-based outfit Great Corinthians FC.
Announcing the deal, those in charge of the Elindus Arena have said via their club's official website: " Zulte Waregem strengthens itself with Joseph Opoku. The winger trained with our Boeren for a while and now signs a contract of 2 seasons with Essevee."
"Joseph Opoku makes the move from Great Corinthians FC in Ghana. The winger impressed the scouting cell with his technical and fast execution, sensible running lines and great growth potential. The right-footed Ghanaian, who left home at a young age to become a professional footballer, signs a contract of 2 seasons with a 2-year option."
The youngster had this to say right after putting pen to paper on the deal: "This is a dream come true for me, but I know it’s just the beginning. “I’ve sacrificed everything my whole life to become a professional footballer. That Essevee is now offering me this opportunity is unbelievable. I want to grow here, improve my qualities and hopefully give something back to this beautiful club.”
The scouting department of the Essevee added: "Joseph is a boy with a lot of talent who will be an added value for Essevee in the long term. "He is a very intelligent player who knows how to hold his own technically when he is under pressure. We are following his development closely in order to prepare him for the big job."
Opoku is yet to play for the Ghana men's senior national team, the Black Stars at the international level.
