English Premier League side Southampton FC have announced the signing of Ghana international Kamaldeen Sulemana on the transfer deadline day.
Sulemana has joined the Saints on a long-term contract until 2027 from French Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennes in the club's transfer record fee around the region of €28 million including add ons.
The 20-year-old signed the four-year contract with the St. Mary's Stadium outfit after passing a mandatory medical examination.
The club's official statement reads “Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of forward Kamaldeen Sulemana from Rennes, subject to a work permit and international clearance.”
Capped 15 times for the senior national team of Ghana, including two appearances at the 2022 World Cup, Sulemana is already experienced at both club and international level and is comfortable either in a wide or central position.
Having played youth football in his home country, he moved to Denmark to join FC Nordsjælland in 2020, making an immediate impact as he scored 14 times in 42 appearances. That led to Rennes signing him in 2021, with Sulemana continuing to enhance his reputation there.
