Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori was unveiled earlier today by South African topflight side AmaZulu FC and feels very excited for the switch.

Ofori, who has been unattached since the end of the 2023–24 season after being released by Orlando Pirates, is joining the Usuthu lads on a free transfer after a fruitful negotiations.

Amazulu FC have blostered their goalkeeping department with the acquisition of the former Black Stars shot-stopper, who has rich experience in the South African Premier League having featured for Maritzburg United and Orlando Pirates.

He is expected to compete with Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Veli Mothwa and Olwethu Mzimela as well as Andile Mbajwa for the starting spot at the Princess Magogo Stadium. 

Reacting to the move, Ofori is very happy to return to the KwaZulu Natal province since that was his first base in South Africa and is willing to give out his all to help the club achieve their aim. 

“I’m happy to be here in KZN again. It feels like home, as KwaZulu Natal was where I first arrived in South Africa.

"We’re here to work and continue the journey. The team is a big club, the oldest in the country, and I’m here to contribute."

During his stay at Orlando Pirates, the 30-year-old goalkeeper made 58 appearances for the club and also helped them to clinch three MTN8 trophies and won the Nedbank Cup on two occasions.

His last appearance for the senior national team of Ghana was against Mozambique at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast which the Black Stars suffered a group stage elimination.

Richard Ofori most likely, will be included in AmaZulu FC's squad ahead of their league game against Marumo Gallants this weekend.
