Rayo Vallecano have opened negotiations with Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin over a contract extension, as the Spanish club looks to secure his long-term future at the Estadio de Vallecas.
The 26-year-old's current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season, leaving just one year remaining — a situation Rayo are keen to address before the start of the new campaign.
According to sources close to the player, Rayo have tabled a new three-year offer that would keep Mumin at the club until at least June 2029. The proposed extension reportedly comes with improved financial terms, underscoring his growing importance in the squad under head coach Iñigo Pérez.
“They want to extend his contract early, before he enters the final year, for three more years,” a senior member of Mumin’s camp revealed. “He’ll be in the final year next season and eligible to negotiate with other clubs, so they’re trying to avoid that scenario.”
Mumin has emerged as a key component in Rayo's defensive unit, and the club is determined to prevent him from entering the final year of his contract without a renewed commitment.
