Goalkeeper Frederick Asare, who had maintained a consistent presence in the Black Stars squad since March, has been omitted from Ghana's latest selection, announced by head coach Otto Addo in Accra.
Asare’s recent decline in form at Asante Kotoko, particularly during their first loss of the season to Legon Cities, influenced Addo's decision.
Following his underwhelming performance, Kotoko's head coach Prosper Ogum replaced Asare with Guinean goalkeeper Mohammed Camara for the subsequent match against Heart of Lions. Asare, who had been on the verge of his Black Stars debut, now faces a setback, needing to refocus and regain his form at the club level to earn another national call-up.
In his place, Abdul Nurudeen has been recalled to the Black Stars. The KAS Eupen goalkeeper has recently cemented his spot as first-choice, playing in Eupen's last five games in Belgium’s Challenge Pro League. Nurudeen will aim to make an impact as Ghana prepares for two must-win AFCON qualifiers—against Angola in Luanda on November 15 and Niger at home on November 18.
While victories in both matches are essential, Ghana's qualification for AFCON 2025 also hinges on Sudan dropping points in their remaining fixtures, adding further pressure to the Black Stars' final push.
