Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare has been included in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Asare is the sole home-based player selected by coach Otto Addo for the crucial fixtures.
The announcement, made by the Ghana Football Association on Thursday afternoon, highlights Asare's inclusion despite his recent inactivity. He was previously part of the squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic in June.
The 23-man squad also features prominent players such as Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Salisu, and Jordan Ayew. However, captain Andre Ayew, currently a free agent, has been omitted from the squad for the second consecutive time, raising questions about his future with the national team.
The Black Stars will be without several key players due to injuries, including Kamaldeen Sulemana, Salis Abdul Samed, Ernest Nuamah, and Gideon Mensah.
Ghana's AFCON qualifying campaign begins with a match against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5, followed by a trip to Morocco to face Niger on September 9. Securing a top-two finish in their group is vital for automatic qualification to Africa's premier football tournament.
