Anderlecht midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has been recalled to the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
This marks Ashimeru’s return to the national team after a lengthy absence due to injury.
Ashimeru, who last featured for the Black Stars during the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast, where Ghana exited at the group stage, was notably absent from the squad for the March international friendlies and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June. His return to form at Anderlecht, where he has started the season strongly with three appearances and a decisive goal against Royal Antwerp, has earned him a spot in Otto Addo’s 23-man squad.
However, the Black Stars will be without several key players, including Kamaldeen Sulemana, Salis Abdul Samed, Ernest Nuamah, and Gideon Mensah, all of whom are sidelined due to injuries.
Ghana is set to face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5, followed by an away match against Niger in Morocco on September 9. These qualifiers are critical for the Black Stars as they aim to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament. The top two teams from each group will earn automatic qualification to Africa's premier football competition.
