A first-half strike from Emmanuel Mensah secured the Black Satellites' first victory at the ongoing 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The male national U20 team kept their qualification hopes alive with a 1-0 win over the Senegal U20 team, maintaining their unbeaten streak in Group C of the tournament.

Coach Desmond Ofei made three changes in his team that played out a one-all draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in the group opener as Jerry Afriyie, Abdul Aziz Issah, and Lord Afrifa were handed starting berths for the Black Satellites.

Ghana commenced the game on a good note, which helped them to open the scoring before the half-hour mark through Sogndal IF winger Emmanuel Mensah.

Mensah brilliantly fired the Black Satellites into the lead after just 15 minutes when he lobbed a pass from Afriyie past Senegalese goalkeeper Mouhamed Sissokho.

The Black Satellites came close to doubling their advantage through Jerry Afriyie in the 23rd minute, but he failed to strike the ball in Sissokho's net in a one-on-one situation.

The Senegal U-20 team took over possession to dominate after the half-hour mark, and Ghana's Gidios Aseako was forced by Ibrahima Dieng and Yaya Dieme to make magnificent saves.

Ghana continued to prevent the upfront of the Senegalese from causing any havoc by levelling the score in the second half as the game ended in a 1-0 win for the Black Satellites.

Ghana currently sits in second place with four points, while DR Congo occupies the top spot following their 3-1 win over the Central African Republic (CAR).

Coach Desmond Ofei's boys will face the Central African Republic in the final Group C game on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Suez Stadium.
