Accra Shooting Stars coach Yaw Preko has urged the Black Stars to be wary of Mali as Ghana prepares for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.
Ghana will resume their Group I campaign with an away clash against Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on September 4, before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium four days later.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Preko, a former Ghana international, stressed that Mali’s recent change in technical direction under Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet makes them a dangerous opponent.
"I think Mali are a dangerous side. They believe that they can come here and cause an upset, but I believe Ghanaians will support the team. But I believe it will not be an easy game," Preko said.
"They have a new coach [Tom Saintfiet] and so they will study us well coming into the game, but with the right support, I believe the team can do something by going all out to win," he added.
The Black Stars lead Group I with 15 points after six matches, holding a three-point cushion over Comoros and a five-point gap on Madagascar as they push for a fifth World Cup appearance.
Otto Addo’s side is expected to open camp in Accra on September 1.
