Coach Otto Addo announced his squad for the upcoming September international break with most of the notable names included but excluding certain two players whom Ghanaians believe deserve to make the cut following their performances recently.
These players include Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who netted a beauty over the weekend for Leicester City against Charlton Athletic and Kwasi Sibo who also excelled in Real Oviedo’s defeat to giants Real Madrid in the La Liga.
As lots of questions are being asked as to why they were excluded, GFA’s Communications Director Henry Asante Twum have these reasons in a post on his official Facebook page.
“Kwasi Sibo will get his chance soon. The technical team has been monitoring him and is impressed with his work rate. Although they opted to maintain the core team following recent performances against Chad and Madagascar, Sibo is on their radar and will likely get an opportunity soon.
“As for Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Otto Addo and his team are pleased to see him back in action. However, given the circumstances surrounding his long layoff, they are cautious about rushing his return. The medical teams from Ghana and Leicester City have had extensive discussions about the player and have decided to give him time. One reason for this cautious approach is that the upcoming match's AstroTurf pitch in N’jamena may not be suitable for Issahaku's return following his recent ACL injury.”
The Black Stars have 15 points so far in the qualifiers after six matches having won five and lost one and are currently sitting at the summit of Group I.
They will open camp on Monday, September to prepare to face Chad on Thursday, September 4, before they host Mali four days later in match-day 7 and 8 respectively of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
