Former board member of Hearts of Oak, Alhaji Brimah Akambi has offered an alternative that he feels should be considered by the GFA if indeed we want to end hooliganism in our football.
He brought up this idea on the back of what transpired over the weekend at the Nana Amoah Koramansah II Park in GPL match-day 19 clash between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko
The chaos was very bad to the extent that a staunch Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, known as 'Nana Pooley' lost his life after he was stabbed by an unknown person.
There has been series hullabaloo since the incident occured with almost all the clubs and football people calling for the end of hooliganism in Ghana football.
Speaking in an interview, the experienced administrator feels Ghana Premier League games shouldn't be played at any stadium since some of the venues are not a safe place to be. He added by suggesting matches should be honoured at selected places from henceforth
“Why do we play football under duress? Nobody should accept it, and this one I will blame on ourselves. We decided on making the Ghana Premier League autonomous three years ago,” Akanbi stated.
“We could have chosen five stadia to host games. Not every stadium is suitable for hosting games. This could have avoided something like the demise of the fan.”
The Ghana Football Association have at the moment postponed match-day 20 matches and the return date for the league hasn't been communicated yet.
