Former Ghana U-17 coach Laryea Kingston has voiced his support for Black Stars coach Otto Addo, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to maintain stability despite the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In an interview with Flashscore, Kingston cautioned against dismissing Addo and his technical team at this stage, arguing that such a move could further derail the national team’s progress.
“Changing the coach and technical team now would be disastrous,” Kingston stated. “We should allow him to at least finish the World Cup qualifiers. Who knows? He might secure qualification. After that, we can make a decision as a country.”
Kingston’s appeal comes amid widespread frustration over Ghana’s dismal AFCON qualifying campaign, where the Black Stars failed to register a single win, finishing with just three points from six matches.
### GFA’s Next Steps
The Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council is scheduled to meet on Wednesday to assess the team’s performance and deliberate on the next steps for the national team.
Kingston’s call for patience underscores a broader debate within Ghanaian football circles about whether continuity or change is the right path forward for the Black Stars.
