Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, says the Black Stars remain “intensely competitive” and fully motivated as they prepare to round off their November internationals with a testing friendly against South Korea.

Nineteen players are currently in camp for Tuesday’s fixture at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, with the squad reduced by injuries to Francis Abu, Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo.

Abu is sidelined with a broken ankle, while Salisu and Semenyo have both withdrawn after picking up knocks.

Despite last Friday’s 2-0 defeat to Japan in the Kirin Cup, Asante Twum insists the team has not lost its spark. He believes the circumstances have sharpened players’ focus rather than weakened it.

“Beyond the national interest, there is also a personal interest,” he told Asempa FM. “The players in camp know they cannot take this opportunity for granted. Of course, not all of them will make it to the World Cup, so this is their moment to show what they can offer.”

He added that the trimmed numbers have heightened the sense of responsibility within the team.

“It’s always a privilege to represent your country, and although we look light in terms of personnel, every player has taken the game seriously and is ready to show what he can do.”

Ghana's match against South Korea is slated to kick off at 11am GMT as preparations continue ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
