Former captain of Hearts of Oak, Yaw Amankwah Mireku, has warned the management of the club to do everything in their power to keep Daniel Afriyie Barnieh ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup participation next season.

Barnieh, 21, has been a pivot in the striking department of the Phobians since the arrival of head coach - Samuel Boadu.

The deadly stiker remains the most effective player in the fold of the current Hearts of Oak team, having helped the Accra based club to win the Ghana Premier League title and two MTN FA Cups in two years.

Barnieh netted the match winner as the Rainbow club defended their MTN FA Cup title against Bechem United.

Mireku told Graphic Sports that the Phobians would need to stop their danger man from leaving the club if they want to make a meaningful impact in Africa.

“The club must do everything possible to ensure Barnieh stays because he is the pivot of the club at the moment. If you want to perform better in Africa, you need to maintain your core players and losing Barnieh will really affect Hearts’ performance,” said Mireku.

Mireku, who is a CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup winner also advised the technical handlers of the team to sharpen the club’s striking department by signing players who could pair Barnieh upfront and bang-in the goals.

Mireku emphasised that Coach Samuel Boadu needed a deadly striker on-board to partner the teenage goal monger in the annual club football competition.

“The team is doing well but I think the striking department must be improved going into the new season. Barnieh needs a reliable striking partner if he decides to stay with Hearts. He needs to form a deadly partnership with someone so the team can score more goals,” he insisted.

Barnieh has been a transfer target of most European and North African clubs after consistent performances with the Raibow lads and is said to be considering a move abroad.
