The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has justified the rationale behind the appointment of management committee for the various national teams.
The pressure group Save Ghana Football, which was started by media professionals, filed a petition in February calling for the removal of the management committee members of the several national teams.
On Monday, September 30, Kurt Okraku, however, faced the Sports Select Committee of Parliament and explained the appointment by saying the teams needed specialized hands on certain demands.
"Currently, we have 20 national teams and each of the 20 national teams has specific needs and attention. It's always important for us to find the right people, the right skill set with the right levels of passion who will help us to manage the national teams," GFA boss Kurt Okraku said.
"If you've been part of the FA set-up, you would fully appreciate what it means to manage the national team. Management committee members are as relevant yesterday as they are today."
Okraku's appearance before the Parliamentary Select Committee was in response to a petition from the Save Ghana Football organizers, who staged a demonstration in Accra following the Black Stars' early elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Vice President of the GFA, Mark Addo, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo as well as GFA Executive Council members namely Dr. Randy Abbey and Frederick Acheampong and others were all present at the sitting.
