Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams has admitted the nation is not fully ready for the much-anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup at the moment despite ongoing preparations and financial backing for the Black Stars.

The team endured a difficult March international window, losing both friendlies; 5-1 to Austria in Vienna and 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart - which shockingly led to the dismissal of Otto Addo.

The Ghana Football Association is now on the lookout for a new coach and the search is already on with less than three months to the tournament.

Despite this, government has committed significant resources towards the campaign, with $30 million allocated to support Ghana’s participation, including $16 million specifically earmarked for the team.

However, the member of parliament for Buem Constituency still believes there is still work to be done in some few areas ro get the team adequately prepared for the tournament.

“I can’t say we are 100% ready, but we have set systems in place that we will be ready when we have to be ready,” he said.

“The World Cup goes beyond the team… there are several activations you want to do because you want to also promote the country beyond just the 90 minutes they will play.”

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, and will face Mexico and Wales in upcoming friendlies as they wrap up preparations for the tournament.
