Former Black Stars defender Anthony Baffoe has backed the current squad to improve despite their recent struggles, insisting key players must be in top condition ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana endured a difficult March international window, losing both friendlies, 5-1 to Austria in Vienna and 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart—which shockingly led to the dismissal of head coach Otto Addo.
The Ghana Football Association is on the lookout for a new coach and the search is already on with less than three months to the tournament.
Speaking to journalists at the residence of the German Ambassador in Accra, Baffoe highlighted the importance of key players regaining full fitness and form to support the team’s attacking play, particularly around Antoine Semenyo.
“Semenyo is a top-class player, but at the moment, Black Stars are now Man City. So everything around him is totally different, and don’t forget, we are playing without the likes of Kudus, Kamaldeen just came back from injury.”
“Thomas Partey is not 100% in shape, which is also fully understandable. They need to be in top form.”
“I think Jordan had a very good match. He was very, very active on the pitch. So if those guys are really also in shape, I think Semenyo also will be good. They’ll provide better balls for him,” Baffoe added.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, and will face Mexico and Wales in upcoming friendlies as they wrap up preparations for the tournament.
