Ghanaian gospel singer, songwriter, and philanthropist, Sonnie Badu has called on the authorities of Ghana football to appropriately honor their players after retirement.
According to the multiple award-winning gospel icon, Ghana should use a civil approach, in contrast to kicking them out of the national team without acknowledgement.
Badu went ahead to give examples of players who suffered such fates, saying it has placed a dent on the team spiritually.
Speaking to Asempa FM, he said; “One thing that Ghana has to learn is to honor the players and retire them well. Most of the players are bitter; you just get rid of them. A lot of players left the Black Stars bitter.
“There is something called spiritual blessing. Michael Essien doesn't come near the Black Stars. He is doing his own thing and doesn’t want to come near the team. Why is that, Badu quizzed.
“If the Nigerians are playing, their legends are sitting around the team and motivating the players at halftime. The Black Stars, on the other hand, seem to say, 'When you retire, don’t come near the team."
