In a thrilling display of commitment and versatility, Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew secured a remarkable victory for Ghana, scoring a hat trick in their 4-3 triumph over the Central African Republic during Monday night's 2026 World Cup qualifier at Baba Yara Stadium.
Despite being played out of his preferred position, the 32-year-old Crystal Palace player showcased unwavering dedication to the team's cause. Reflecting on his performance in a post-match interview, Ayew reiterated his commitment to giving his best regardless of his role on the pitch.
“I've been playing out of position for quite some time both in the national team and at the club level. But I have always done my duty, put my country first, and never complained because I always give my all,” Ayew stated.
Amid discussions about his preferred position, Ayew expressed understanding of the team's needs and his own adaptable qualities.
“It’s difficult. It's not something that I like to talk about but obviously, my favourite position right from the academy, France, in the national team has always been as a number 9. But I understand because I have qualities that allow me to play in the pockets of spaces, and I don't complain.”
Ayew's stellar performance not only secured victory for Ghana but also solidified his status as a prolific goal scorer for the national team, with 28 goals to his name, placing him as the country's 6th all-time top scorer.
The triumph propelled the Black Stars to the summit of Group I with nine points, setting the stage for further success in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
