Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has expressed concern about the Black Stars' current trajectory under head coach Otto Addo, following a disappointing start to their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium last Thursday. Their struggles continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Niger in their second Group F match on Monday at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco.
Ghana's performance has left them in 3rd place in Group F with just one point from two games, raising concerns about their chances of qualifying for the continental showpiece.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Agyemang-Badu, a FIFA U-20 World Cup winner, expressed dissatisfaction with the direction the Black Stars are taking.
“With the kind of quality players we have, it’s concerning that we struggle to string together three or four passes. Even when we took the lead, Niger dominated possession, had 16 shots with three on target, while we had six shots with three on target and only managed one corner,” Agyemang-Badu told Asempa FM.
“I don’t think we’re heading in the right direction. We used to play in finals, and now we’re struggling to get out of the group stages. Things are getting tougher for us,” he added.
The Black Stars will look to turn their fortunes around when they face Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in a crucial doubleheader in October.
