Assistant coach of the Sudan national football team, Ignatius Osei-Fosu, has asked the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to review its decision to add Kim Lars Björkegren to the technical team of the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Osei-Fosu believes the decision could affect preparations for the Black Queens, especially after the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) was moved to July.
The discussion started after the GFA decided that Björkegren, who currently coaches the Black Queens, should also work with the Black Stars. This has raised concerns about possible clashes in schedules and preparation.
Speaking to Luv FM, Osei-Fosu said the main focus should be making sure the Black Queens are well prepared for the tournament, which is also a route to the next FIFA Women's World Cup.
“They have to change because during the World Cup, the Black Queens must be preparing,” Osei-Fosu said. “I’m not calling for a change for the sake of it. They have to, unless they are throwing one of the tournaments under the bus. It’s fundamental because Ghana wants to qualify for the Women’s World Cup.”
Osei-Fosu added that he has always strongly supported the women’s national team and believes the upcoming competition must be taken very seriously.
“Anybody who has followed me knows that I’m the number one supporter of the Black Queens. The people managing the team cannot play with that tournament.
“This tournament we are going to play is a qualifier for the World Cup in Brazil. As I’m sitting here, nobody should play with it.”
He added that if Ghana expects the Black Stars to perform well on the global stage, the same level of attention must be given to the Black Queens as they aim to qualify for the next world tournament.
