Ghana coach Chris Hughton has opened up on his role as the head of the Black Stars technical team after widespread news of an imminent sacking.

Hughton in an interview with BBC Africa stated that he was tasked to improve the current Black Stars team and also attain good results.

The Irish-born of Ghanaian heritage said he will always do his best for the Black Stars but cannot win every game.

Reports in the Ghanaian media on Thursday indicated that the Ghana Football Association is considering with the Government of Ghana to abrogate the contract of the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager.

However, the country's football governing body shrugged off the reports and announced a 25-man squad list for this month's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.

Having recorded three wins and two draws in his first five games, Hughton suffered back-to-back defeats in the October's international friendlies where Ghana suffered a 2-0 loss to Mexico before a 4-0 humiliation to USA.

"My role as the coach of the Black Stars is to get the best results and the best performances from the team," he told BBC Africa.

"You can't always get that, but what you can always do, you can always learn from your previous experiences whether it is good or bad.

"And ultimately, I will work as hard as I always do to try to get things the best way that we can," he added.

Hughton was appointed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as replacement for Otto Addo, who resigned from the role after the Black Stars' exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage.
