Ghana coach Otto Addo has pledged to bounce back with the Black Stars following their disappointing qualification campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Stars ended their AFCON qualifiers without a single win, culminating in a shock 2-1 defeat to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium. The result confirmed Ghana's failure to qualify for next year's tournament in Morocco, marking the first time in 20 years that the team will miss out on the continental showpiece.
Despite growing calls for his resignation, Addo, a former Ghana international, remains determined to overcome the setbacks and rebuild the team.
"I never give up. This is the way I came up. This is part of the job and I know this is very, very normal that you want me to resign. I don’t know what you want me to do here. Whether cry or whatever," Addo said after the match.
"But I am very sad and I can’t go home. I don’t even want to go home because when I go I will see them [my family] cry,” he added, reflecting on the emotional toll of the loss.
With Ghana's AFCON hopes dashed, the Black Stars now turn their focus to the World Cup qualifiers, where they aim to top Group I and secure their fifth appearance at the global tournament.
