Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has spoken of his joy after his side reached the quarterfinals of the FA Cup with a win over Samartex 1996.
The Round of 16 clash at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa ended goalless after regulation time, with neither team able to convert their chances.
The match was eventually decided on penalties, with Medeama showing greater character to win 4–2 and book a place in the last eight.
It was a closely fought encounter, with both sides pushing for a breakthrough but strong defending and goalkeeping kept the score level.
Reacting after the match, Tanko praised his players and the quality of the Timber Giants.
“It feels good qualifying to the quarterfinal of the FA Cup. Samartex is a very tough team to play but we were able to earn qualification over them,” he said.
Medeama converted four of their penalty kicks, while Samartex managed only two as they brought an end to the Timbers Boys’ FA Cup campaign.
The Yellow and Mauve will now face Division One League side Attram De Visser Academy in the quarterfinals, with the date to be confirmed by the FA Cup Committee and the Ghana Football Association.
