Asante Kotoko's Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkra, has raised concerns over the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) stadium selection criteria, questioning why the Baba Yara Stadium has been deemed unfit while the T&A Stadium continues to host Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches.
In a statement shared by Oyerepa Sports, Nana Apinkra expressed his frustration, highlighting inconsistencies in the enforcement of safety and security protocols.
"How does the T&A Stadium meet the standards to host GPL games, yet Baba Yara does not? At T&A, players and officials have to get down at the entrance and walk to the stadium before playing their matches. Are these the enhanced safety and security standards we are talking about?" he questioned.
The GFA’s Club Licensing Board recently declared Baba Yara Stadium unfit for use, leading to uncertainty over Kotoko’s home fixture against Legon Cities. This decision has sparked debate, especially as the T&A Stadium, which hosts Medeama SC’s home matches, continues to be in use despite logistical challenges.
Kotoko officials have maintained that they have not received formal communication from the GFA regarding the Baba Yara ban and remain confident of hosting their next league match at the venue.
Meanwhile, the GFA has introduced new security measures following the tragic stabbing of a Kotoko fan in Nsoatre, with stricter enforcement expected as the league resumes on March 7.
