Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has held talks with the Black Queens as the team continues to push for the payment of outstanding bonuses ahead of their crucial 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt.
Okraku visited the squad at their base at the Erata Hotel on Monday morning, with discussions focused on resolving the disagreement that led players to halt training in protest. Each player is understood to be owed $9,500 from the 2024 WAFCON campaign in Morocco.
The standoff has put the team’s preparations on hold, with reports indicating the players are considering a return to training later today following the meeting.
The situation escalated over the weekend after reports emerged that Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams had told the squad they were free to leave if they were unwilling to play, comments that contributed to rising tension within the camp.
Okraku’s intervention is seen as a move to reassure the squad and stabilise the situation before Tuesday’s decisive second leg at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana take a 3–0 lead into the match after a strong first-leg performance in Ismailia and would progress to the next qualifying round with a positive result.
