Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has been confirmed as the new head coach of Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites.
Konadu replaces Desmond Ofei and will be assisted by Johnson Smith, deputy coach of Nations FC, and Winfred Dormon, head coach of Dreams FC. Kelvin Agyemang joins the technical setup as goalkeepers’ trainer.
The 52-year-old tactician returns to national service with a wealth of experience from both club and international football. He has managed several Ghana Premier League sides, including Asante Kotoko, Eleven Wonders, Legon Cities, and most recently Nsoatreman FC.
Konadu’s coaching résumé includes guiding Kotoko to the Ghana Premier League title in 2012 and lifting the President’s Cup in 2019. He also led the Black Galaxies to WAFU Zone B Championships in 2013 and 2017. More recently, he etched his name into Nsoatreman’s history books by steering them to their first-ever MTN FA Cup title in 2023/24.
On the international stage, Konadu previously worked alongside Akwasi Appiah and Avram Grant as an assistant coach of the Black Stars, gaining valuable experience at the highest level.
His appointment to the Black Satellites is seen as another important chapter in his long-standing contribution to Ghanaian football, with hopes that he can restore the U-20 side to its former glory on the continental and global stage.
